The effort is a joint undertaking of the National Association of State Units on Aging (NASUA) and the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging (N4A), funded by the Administration on Aging. Questionnaires were mailed to all 57 State Units and 666 Area Agencies in September, 1981. Topics included the staffing of the agencies, the types of funding used, and the types of services provided by the agencies. Part 1 contains survey data from the State Units on Aging and state-level data from the 1980 United States Census and Social Security Administration. Part 2 contains data from the survey of Area Agencies on Aging along with Planning and Service Area (PSA)-level data from the census and Social Security. Part 3, 'Characteristics of Service Providers', contains information on service providers, including service delivery locations and grant or contract funding sources. Part 4, 'Characteristics of Services Provided', includes data for each of the distinct services provided directly or indirectly by Area Agencies on Aging.".
