- catalog abstract "The Learning From Performers Program worked together with ART/Mondays to plan "A Pirandello Evening: Acting on Stage and in Real Life." Participating in the discussion-demonstration with filmmaker Frederick Wiseman were Robert Brustein, Artistic Director of the American Repertory Theatre, and three A.R.T. actors, Harriet Harris, Isabell Monk, and John Bottoms. Following a performance of two scenes from Wiseman's film "Welfare," which the actors rehearsed without having viewed the scene from the film itself, Wiseman and Brustein led a discussion with them about the role of the actor in rehearsed performance, improvised performance, filmed performance, and actual experience. The floor was then opened to questions from the audience of 200. The whole discussion touched on themes dealt with in Brustein's A.R.T. production of Pirandello's "Tonight We Improvise," in which Wiseman amd the three actors were then performing. Wiseman also produced films for and collaborated with Brustein on this production.".
