- catalog abstract "The North House Music Society, the Music Department, and the Office for the Arts co-sponsored a tribute to Milton Babbitt and John Hollander with a series of concerts and discussions called "Vision and Resonance." Professional musicians and students performed in two concerts of Babbitt's work. Ralph Schulte, Alan Feinberg, and Joel Smirnoff were among the musicians who performed. One of the major pieces performed, "Philomel," composed by Babbitt with a libretto by Hollander, was the topic of one of the two discussions, "Words and Music." Soprano Maria Tegzes sang the piece through in the North House Holmes Hall Living Room and then Babbitt and Hollander talked about their collaboration on it. This discussion, attended by 50 people, was full of insight into the creative process of each artist as well as into the act of collaboration. "Reflections and Responses," a second discussion in Holmes Hall Living Room, with composers David Lewin and Peter Lieberson of the Harvard Music Department and Robert Cogan from the New England Conservatory, brought out more ideas about collaboration, composition and the creative process.".
