- catalog abstract "The manuscript portion (Folders 2-16) of the materials relating to Joseph Stone in the Department of Special Collections, University Research Library, University of California, Los Angeles. Stone, a resident of Ward (now Auburn), Mass., contributed compositions to the early American tunebook repertory and compiled one published collection (The Columbian harmony, 1793) with Abraham Wood of Northboro, Mass. By his late 30s Stone had adopted the practice of writing a hymn text or texts almost every day and setting many of these to music. He kept this up almost to his death, producing an astonishing abundance of hymns and hymn tunes. Stone's poetical/musical journals, two MS. tunebooks he compiled, and a MS. anthology he made of music by other psalmody composers comprise this collection.".
