- catalog description "Born in Sendai, Japan, Louise Elizabeth (Hamblen) Owen was the younger daughter of Reverend Samuel Willis Hamblen and Alice (Adams) Hamblen. In 1920, she graduated from Denison University, where she met her future husband, David Edward Owen. Following graduation she was a social worker in Cleveland while David Owen traveled throughout the United States as traveling secretary of the Student Volunteer Movement for Foreign Missions (YMCA). They were married in 1922; their daughter, Elizabeth, was born in 1925. David Owen became an English historian and taught at Harvard, 1937-1968. Louise Owen was a member of the board of the Harvard College Teas Association and the Newcomers Club, and played an active role at John Winthrop House, where her husband was Master (1957-1964). A member of the League of Women Voters of Cambridge, she served as legislative chair of the Cambridge (1951-1954) and the Massachusetts (1953-1955) leagues.".
