- catalog abstract "The challenge of periodontal regeneration has become a central issue in periodontal research and practice. The objective, of course, is to reconstitute the biologic complex of cementum, periodontal ligament, and alveolar bone onto the root surfaces associated with marginal periodontitis. In this book, premier investigators and clinicians, contending that standard treatment techniques do not result in periodontal regeneration, approach the problem from a biologic perspective. They assert that regeneration can be achieved only by proper understanding of all cellular, tissue, and clinical components, and they provide the foundation necessary for this understanding. This book, which addresses biologic and clinical considerations and future directions, begins with a discussion of the results of conventional therapeutic techniques for periodontal regeneration. It goes on to address the root surface, wound healing, plastic surgery techniques, osseous and synthetic grafts, histologic aspects, cellular and molecular biology, guided tissue regeneration, resorbable barriers, growth factors, and biologic mediators. In presenting the most recent information on research and clinical outcomes, this book seeks to link scientific evidence and success in clinical practice. Periodontal Regeneration: Current Status and Directions is a valuable resource for both clinicians and researchers involved in periodontology.".
