Gurrey in 1903, and by 1907, she owned and operated a photography studio in Honolulu. Primarily a commercial photographer, Gurrey produced a series of pictorialist style portraits of the pure and mixed-race children of Hawaii, most from the Kamehameha School established in 1887 by Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop. The photographs were exhibited at the Alaska Yukon Pacific Exposition of 1909 and the Panama-Pacific International Exposition of 1915.".
