- catalog abstract ""This bulletin presents estimates of employee average hourly earnings and weekly hours of work in manufacturing and selected nonmanufacturing industries in eight metropolitan areas of the South in June 1965. The results of this survey supplement those of similar studies made in June 1961 and June 1962. They permit an examination of wage changes occurring during a period when the Federal minimum wage was increased from $ 1 to $ 1. 25, and a $ 1 minimum wage was established and later raised to $1.15 for employees (mostly those in large retail enterprises) brought under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act for the first time in September 1961 ... This study was conducted in the Bureau's Division of National Wage and Salary Income by Norman J. Samuels, Chief of the Division, under the general direction of L.R. Linsenmayer, Assistant Commissioner for Wages and Industrial Relations. This bulletin was prepared by William L. Dansby, under the supervision of Alvin Bauman."--Page iii.".
