- catalog abstract "William Faulkner visited the United States Military Academy less than three months before his death. On the night of April 19, 1962, he read episodes from his not yet published novel, The Reivers, before an audience of cadets, faculty, and staff. After the reading he answered questions about his own work and about literature in general. Later he attended a conference with the press. The following morning he met with cadets in two advanced literature courses and discussed many facts of his philosophy of life. These sessions were recroded, and the tapes have been carefully transcribed and edited for this volume by two members of the English Department at West Point. The parts of The Reivers that Faulkner read are included together with his interesting departures from the printed text. The book is a commemoration of one of Faulkner's last public appearances; its royalties will provide funds for the establishment and maintenance of a William Faulkner Room in the Military Academy's new library. -- Book Jacket.".
