- catalog abstract "The collection was compiled by F. Gentile de Giuseppe and includes over five hundred letters, contracts and libretti on French and Italian opera ballet of the nineteenth century. A large number of the letters are between dancers and their theatrical agents, particularly Domenico Barbaja (manager for Teatro alla Scala in Milan and Teatro di San Carlo in Naples), Innocenzo Canedi, Henri Duponchel (Opera de Paris), M. Ferville, and Sig. Mezzabotta. The contracts also refer to the agents, and describe terms and fees for seasons or performances. The letters date primarily from late-eighteenth century through the nineteenth century. The libretti have been removed from the files and cataloged individually. The collection includes several broadsides from Teatro La Fenice. In addition, the collection contains newspaper and magazine clippings on twentieth century dance, including the Ballets Russes.
