- catalog abstract "It is commonly believed that the attitudes and concrete behavior of opposing partisans to social conflicts are independent, leading many scholars to suggest that these partisans differ minimally in their concrete behavior and interests, while assuming they differ greatly in their attitudes and ideology. However, this view may misrepresent the complexity of social conflicts. This study examined these questions in the context of the "Western Canon" dispute, which among other things, divides partisans, (called revisionists and traditionalists), according to preferred books taught in introductory literature courses. The actual differences in partisans' book selections were consistent with their differing ideologies. The implications of the asymmetries in perceptual biases demonstrated in this study are discussed.".
