- catalog abstract "The Enduring Questions has grown out of the conviction that the great philosophers have grappled with questions that are enduring because they are of deep concern to every thoughtful individual. Substantial progress has been made in clarifying and answering these questions, but they are not ephemeral and not easily dismissed. In stressing the universal and permanent values of the Western philosophical tradition, the book draws mainly upon acknowledged classics, including the best of recent philosophy. And by emphasizing such issues as free will versus determinism the book has acquired a sharply interrogative character. The editorial comments stress the questions to which the readings naturally give rise.".
