- catalog abstract "Hovsep Hatutian (ca. 1841-1915), son of Sarkis Hatutian (ca. 1812-1882) of Kessab, a city in an Armenian region in northern Syria, married Mariam Titizian (ca. 1846-1915), ca. 1868. They had six children, ca. 1869-1890. Their oldest son was killed by a Turkish bandit in 1896, leaving a wife and two children. Hovsep and Mariam Hatutian with four of their children and most of their grandchildren died in the desert in Siberia, after having been driven from their home by the Turks in 1915. Their youngest son, Hovhannes Sakissian (1890-1961), was away at school in Darson in 1915. After serving with a Turkish construction battalion during World War I, he returned to school and graduated from St. Paul's College, Tarsus, Turkey, in 1920 with a B.A. He then taught school at Mersin, Darson, and Iskenderun. He married Haigouhi Tavoukjikan (1908-1988) in 1926 at Iskenderun. They had six children, 1927-1947. He graduated from the Near East School of Theology at Beirut, Lebanon, in 1933. The family settled at Beirut, where he was a teacher and writer. He died at Beirut. His widow immigrated to the United States and settled at Watertown, Massachusetts, where her daughters lived. She died at Cambridge and is buried at Watertown. Most of their children immigrated to the United States between 1957 and 1989. One son became a doctor in Germany and settled there. Includes information about Sarkissian, Ashjian and Karaguesian grandchildren living in Massachusetts, Germany and elsewhere. Also includes information about surviving members of the Hatutian family living in Syria, Armenia, Missouri, California and elsewhere.".
