- catalog abstract "This study of 51 work teams in a mid-sized manufacturing company tests a model of team learning in which shared beliefs about psychological safety and performance efficacy affect learning behaviors, which in turn affect team performance. Multiple methods were used to measure antecedent, process and outcome variables in the model. Results show tha t members' shared beliefs about their team's tolerance for face threat ("team safety") are associated with learning behaviors such as seeking new information and discussing mistakes. However, controlling for team safety, similar support is not found for efficacy beliefs. As predicted, learning behaviors mediate between team safety and team performance. The results suggest that the construct of team safety provides a mechanism through which the elements of team structure such as composition, task, and leader behavior enable desired performance outcomes.".
