- catalog abstract "For years, physicians have advised their patients to reduce levels of serum cholesterol in order to decrease the chance of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD). Population studies, however, suggest that limiting cholesterol intake does not reduce overall mortality rates. Instead, although CVD rates to decrease, the incidence of violent deaths increases. These startling, if somewhat tentative, results have augmented research into a significant area: the connection between lipid levels and human behavior. Lipids, Health, and Behavior presents a snapshot of the current state of knowledge in the field, as well as original research. This book explores potentially critical connections between lipids and psychopathology (such as violence and schizophrenia) and the more complex interactions among lipids, behavior, and physical health. A unique contribution to this young field of study, Lipids, Health, and Behavior will help shape the direction of continued investigation. Additionally, this multidisciplinary volume addresses concerns pertaining to a number of disciplinesincluding neurology, psychology, and cardiology - as well as implications for public health officials involved in shaping policy for the future.".
