- catalog abstract ""There is a cheerful vitality about Barcelona that its architecture expresses to the full. A vivacity that stems essentially from two periods of great architectural energy that have left their mark on the twentieth century: Catalan Art Nouveau, known as Modernisme in Catalonia, which made Barcelona one of the capital cities of European art at the beginning of the century, and Interiorisme (interior design), an aesthetic movement that took shape in the 1980s and which is coming to maturity now. Catalan modernisme strikes us now as an avant-garde movement whose audacity is still relevant, while contemporary creations, set against this historical background, are taking on an unexpected depth. The main concern these creators have in common is to achieve an architecture that fills one with wonder, that sets one dreaming. When presenting simultaneously significant aspects of these two periods side by side, various common concerns seem obvious. When there extremes are brought together a new unity emerges. The two periods reflect each other, illuminated by the same light. This book sets out to visit some of these common territories, defined by shared concerns and tastes"--Bookjacket.".
