- catalog description "John Eliot (1754-1813), a Boston minister, was born in Boston on May 31, 1754, a son of the Reverend Andrew Eliot (Harvard AB 1737). He received an AB from Harvard in 1772 and an AM in 1775. Eliot served as an Army chaplain during the Revolutionary War, and on November 3, 1779, he was ordained as the minister of the New North Church of Boston. Eliot delivered the annual Dudleian lecture at Harvard in 1803, and in 1804 was elected to the College Corporation. He was an active member of the Massachusetts Historical Society, and its first librarian. In 1809, Eliot published a “Biographical Dictionary” of early New England colonists. Eliot died on February 14, 1813.".
