"Prest discounted Russell's career as being insignificant after his resignation in 1852, and he spent little time on his subsequent career. This work, in contrast, stresses the importance of much that Lord John achieved after that date. It is particularly revisionist in its stress on the importance of Russell's foreign policy during the years that he served as Foreign Secretary under Palmerston."
