- catalog description "Brattle Hall, which houses the Brattle Theatre, was built in 1871 by The Cambridge Social Union as a multipurpose space. With the depression in 1929, the Social Union membership fell and the hall was rented to a variety of tenants including the Cambridge Center for Adult Education and a number of professional theater companies. From 1948-1952, the Brattle Theatre Company, formerly the Veterans' Theatre Workshop (a society of Harvard students) occupied the building and hired many well-known actors to fill out its amateur ranks. In 1953, the Brattle re-opened as a reperatory motion picture theater.".
