Settling near Londonderry, N.H., the family owned two farms, a saw mill, and livestock, but seeking additional income, Hannah and Mary apprenticed themselves to a Nashua milliner and tailor respectively (1833-1835). Three years later Hannah and Mary moved to Manchester, where they opened a tailoring business which prospered until their retirement in 1880. Eliza worked in the mills in Lowell, Mass.; she later bought a farm in South Hadley, Mass., and adopted three children.".
