- catalog description "The Gordon McKay Laboratory of Applied Science, located at 9 and 15 Oxford Street, was designed by the architectural firm of Shepley, Bulfinch, Richardson and Abbott. It was named for Gordon McKay (1821-1903) who was a professor of engineering as well as a Harvard benefactor. The McKay Laboratory was completed in two stages, in 1951 and 1961. Davis House and 40 Quincy Street were demolished to make room for the laboratory. From the outset, the building housed many research projects, including electronics research supported by the Office of Naval Research.".
