- catalog description "The Class Day Tree, also known as the Class Day Elm, was located near Holden Chapel in the Old Yard. During Commencement Week, before assembled ladies, seniors would participate in "The Rush," which consisted of students racing wildly around the tree, leaping and scrambling to grab flowers from a garland placed high up around the trunk. The College put an end to "The Rush" in 1898, claiming it to be too disruptive. The tree died of leopard-moth blight in 1909, and in 1913 the corpse of the Class Day Tree came down.".
