- catalog abstract "This study investigated whether the cognitions and behavior of decision-makers in an asymmetric social dilemma can be predicted from a profile of their national culture. Results indicated that groups of the decision-makers from Japan--a collectivist, high context, hierarchical culture--were, as predicted, more cooperative, expected others to be more cooperative, and were most likely to adopt an equal allocation distribution rule to resolve the dilemma than groups of decision-makers from the U.S.--an individualist, low context, egalitarian culture. An opportunity for communication had a greater impact on expectations of others' behavior in groups of U.S. than groups of Japanese decision-makers.".
