After living in Brazil from 1943 to 1946, Dimmick taught Portugese and Brazilian literature at Harvard. In 1951, Dimmick left teaching and joined the Organization of American States. He served as contributing editor to the Library of Congress' Handbook of Latin American studies and translated works of Brazilian literature into English including Manual Bandeira's A brief history of Brazilian literature.".
