- catalog abstract ""There is currently much public debate about 'men in crisis', 'troubled masculinities', and 'men at risk'. Although women continue to bear a disproportionate share of material, social, and civil disadvantage, there is a growing awareness that men in some contexts also face marginalisation because of their gender roles and identities." "This Working Paper, based on research commissioned by the World Bank, argues for a mature understanding of how gender, race, and poverty interlink to disadvantage particular categories of men, as well as women. Men, and male gender concerns, must be incorporated in gender and development interventions at the grassroots level, so that issues facing both sexes can be considered together. Current 'in-house' approaches in more than 30 development organisations are reviewed, and suggestions are made for a more gender-balanced, men-inclusive approach."--Jacket.".
