- catalog abstract "The artist's collection of proofs of wood engravings to illustrate Robinson Crusoe. Created and reworked over a period of nearly twenty years they show the artist's many changes with corrections, state identification, dates, and other notes in the artist's hand. The proofs, following a preliminary page lay-out sketch, are mounted in a leather-bound album (31 cm.) and in four pamphlet-bound albums with the following hand-written titles on covers: "RC 1: Proofs of blocks cut by E.G.C. 1925, 1927, 1928, 1930, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1944, seen again, 1957" (24 cm.); "RC 2: Proofs of blocks cut by E.G.C. 1938, 1939, 1944" (24 cm.); "RC 2 bis: 1939 a rather good year, January, February April, May" (13 x 16 cm.); "RC 3: Proofs of blocks cut by E.G.C. in 1944" (24 cm.). Also included in the collection are 10 letterpress page proofs of the first page of text of the projected but never published Cranach Press edition, each with its state identified in ink and or pencil by the artist and laid in a folder (37 cm.). These page proofs were printed ca. 1931. Cf. R. Müller-Krumbach.".
