A number of the photographs were taken at several early airfields including Fort Myer, Virginia, Governors Island, New York, and College Park, Maryland. - catalog description "Public interest in aviation grew quickly in the years after the Wright Brothers' historic first flight. By 1910, air shows, exhibitions, and meets were popular events. Early aviation events included the Harvard-Boston Aviation Meet held in September 1910 and again in August 1911 at Atlantic, Massachusetts; the International Aviation Tournament at Belmont Park, New York, in October 1910; and the first Intercollegiate Glider Meet at Squantum Field near Boston in May 1911. These meets included contests for rapid starting, speed, altitude, target bombing, landing accuracy, and distance races.".
