He was sent first to Boston in 1709, then in 1710 to Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia, which recently had come under the control of the British. He maintained his home in Boston and married a Boston native, Elizabeth Perry. In 1739 he became lieutenant-governor of Nova Scotia and served until 1749. He continued his connections with the province until his death in Boston in 1760.".
