Simple line drawings are used to identify the diagnostic anatomic features and to emphasize important surgical landmarks, allowing readers to generalize to the infinitely variable morphology encountered in clinical practice. The anatomic pathologist will also gain an understanding of surgical repairs and of postoperative hearts. The layout encourages the reader to practice mental imaging of the three dimensional spatial relationships which are integral to successful congenital heart surgery as well as to develop an appreciation for details of the individual steps in complex surgical repairs.".
