- catalog description "William Wetmore (1749-1830), a New England judge, was born on October 30, 1749 in Middletown, Conn. He received an AB from Harvard in 1770. After graduating Wetmore remained at Harvard as a Hopkins Fellow, and received an AM in 1773. Wetmore practiced law in Salem, Mass. before moving to Maine in 1795. In 1801, he was appointed Justice of the Peace and Quorum and Judge of Probate for Hancock County. Wetmore returned to Boston in 1804 and became Chief Justice of the Suffolk County Court of Common Pleas in 1807, and First Associate Justice for the Middle Circuit of the Circuit Court of Common Pleas in 1811. Wetmore died on November 18, 1830.".
